Yellow diamonds in the light, And we're standing side by side, As your shadow crosses mine... We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place
Codie had decided to wake up early tuesday morning to catch the cool air as she ran. Throwing her hair back in a ponytail she put on her hot pink hoodie and tight black running capris. Slipping on her sneakers, Codie grabbed her iPod before heading out the door. She moved throughout the hall quietly, trying her best not to wake up any of the sleeping students. She figured that she didn't have to worry about anyone else being up seeing as how it was 5am and no sane college student would voluntarily be up at that time. Codie was different though, she loved air and the smell of the morning air.
Stepping outside Codie turned on her music and began to run throughout the campus and to the forest. Taking in a deep breath, she smiled as she began to run on one of the small trails.

Yellow diamonds in the light, And we're standing side by side, As your shadow crosses mine... We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place
Codie was getting lost as she ran the trail through the woods. Her music was pumping and pushing her every step of the way. She didn’t really have an end goal in sight; she was just running to run. The trail Codie had chosen today was a small trail, it wasn’t for beginners by any means with all the little bumps and obstacles, but she had ran it enough that she knew a few tricks. She was thankful that not a lot of runners knew about the trail, she was free to run it however fast or slow she wanted. Turning her music up louder in her ear, she began to sing along to the song at the top of her lungs.
She had been running a steady pace for about 15 minutes and had worked up a good sweat, but wasn’t overly hot yet. She noticed that one of her shoelaces had become untied, so she bent over and began to tie it back up. As she finished tying, she stood up and was just about to turn down her music and enjoy the nature for a few minutes, when out of nowhere she found herself flying forwards toward the ground. She had no idea what had hit her, but that didn’t matter in that exact moment. She reached her hands out forward and was able to catch some of her fall, but scraped her knee on a small rock, and scratched her hands on some prickly bushes along the trail. As she knelt on the ground, she quickly flipped to take her weight off her knees and sat down, looking at who had bumped into her. She couldn’t recognize who it was, but knew she had at least seen him around campus before. Wiping her knees and hands off, she knew it probably looked worse than it felt, and when he apologized to her, she gave a friendly smile and pulled her headphones off her head. ”Don’t worry about it, accidents happen.” Brushing off all the remaining dirt, Codie slowly began to stand up, straightening her clothes that had begun to bunch up.

Codie stood up all the way and finished brushing herself off. Looking up at the guy who bumped into her, she half smiled . "Yeah, I think i'll survive, this time." She tried to lighten up the mood with a small joke and a friendly smile.
As she looked at the guy standing in front of her, she knew that he was older, but wasn't sure of which clique he belonged to. He was good looking for sure, she wondered if maybe he could help her fit in with the popular group, but wasnt sure. "I take it you like running in the mornings too? Im Codie by the way, i'm a freshman at the university."

She seemed completely unaware of his stutter, either that or she just payed it no mind. He wished everyone was like that, he had come home because he didn't quite get teased as much, even at the age of twenty nearly twenty one he was still being teased and tormented. He always did his best to ignore but when someone was pointing out the very flaw that you hated most about yourself it tended to make life a little bit difficult. It seemed as though this girl just didn't mind which made him relax just a little bit more. He wasn't one for relaxing or showing facial expressions. He was shocked at himself for not having a meltdown because he touched someone when it wasn't intentional.
Christian knew that when the girl said that she would survive this time she wasn't meaning that she wa going to die next time someone pushed her over even it was be accident. He let a small smile turn up the corner of his lips as he looked at her. "G-good. Next time I'll l-look where i'm g-going"
He said gently. Most people thought him adorable and then got to know him and saw he wasn't as people expected. Truthfully he had just been brought up right, or at least that's what other people said. He however would totally disagree. He glanced over at the girl, she had a few stains but nothing that wouldn't wash off, at least that was something. He hated ruining things and those stains would probably draw his attention more than he liked. He smiled when the girl looked at him, well tried to smile. He wasn't too great at showing emotion like other people he had to work at it, it didn't come naturally to him. When the girl told him her name and that she was freshman he realised he was two years older than her. Oh well friends were friends and they didn't come along very often for him. "Every m-morning" He stuck out his hand for her to shake in politeness. "I'm Ch-christian. I'm a j-junior there" He said with a slight smile. He pushed his hair to the side so it was out of his face. His blue eyes looking over her, she was pretty but a little too young, not to mention he was kinda crushing on his own room mate making life complicated for him. As Christian stuck his hand out, Codie reached hers forward and shook his hand. "It's nice to meet your Christian." She remarked with a friendly smile. She noticed his stutter, but didn't really pay much attention to it. Sure if she was in high school still and trying to impress people she would have been one of the first to make a rude comment and tease him, but over the summer, and after being reunited with Ryan, Codie began to realize that there's a lot more to a person than their appearance or even speech.
Turning off her iPod, she tucked her earbuds into her armband so she could talk to Christian. When he told her that he ran every morning she got to thinking. Sure she usually ran by herself, she could run at her own pace, stay out as long or as little, little to whatever music, and even sing along if she wanted, but there were times that it was fun, and even more safe if she was running with someone else. At least with Christian she would have someone that was use to running. "Every morning, eh. Do you always run by yourself...or is there someone else usually." She of course wanteed to make sure that she wouldn't be stepping on any toes, she figured she would ask to see if he wanted a running buddy. She hoped that he would, maybe she'd be able to get some college pointers from him too.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Christian had spent half of his life observing people from afar. Part of it had been some of his therapy to try and give him a chance to read people a little better. A way to tell if tyhey are in fact approachable. Most of the time he got it wrong but he was much better and reading people now. He had been doing it for so long he could tell what a person was feeling providing it really was written all over their faces. When he looked at Codie she looked almost interested in him and what he had to say. This wasn't something he really experienced when he first met people and it was kind of taking him by surprise. Of course it was rare to see any kind of emotion on his face so it was in it's usual mask of nothing. It looked as though he didn't care when that so wasn't the case.
They shook hands and Codie seemed to be quite the nice person, or so she seemed on first impressions. He nodded in agreement. "You t-to"
He said with a slight flicker of a smile. Codie turned off her ear phones and attatched them to her armband and he followed suit. They had fallen out of his ears when he had knocked her over. He took them out of the ipod completely and zipped them up in his pocket. It would be rude to do anything else. He looked her over and saw she was pretty fit and in shape, it looked as though she did more than just running but that was just an observation. He was generally correct but not nessecarily. Christian noticed that both of their laboured breathing had gone calm and if they weren't careful and started to run again they could do some major damage to their muscles. Codie spoke once more and he looked over towards her. He smiled and shook his head. "N-no always on my own." He said with a slight shrug of his shoulder to show he didn't really mind. Then he looked down the trail in front of them. They didn't have to run but could jog and talk if they needed to. "Shall we start j-jogging down the t-trail before we warm d-down completely?" He asked her hoping she didn't think it would an invasion of privacy. Maybe she preferred to be on her own all the time, he didn't care either way normally. Yellow diamonds in the light, And we're standing side by side, As your shadow crosses mine... We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place
Codie was glad when Christian asked if she wanted to start jogging before they got cooled down too much. She nodded and began to start jogging and watched as he began jogging with her. She was glad to have some company, it was lonely running by yourself all time. She was use to team runs in high school, and was still trying to find the right group to run with in college, if they even had that sort of grouping. She was still undecided if she wanted to get back into cheerleading or if she just wanted to keep her focus on dance. She was half tempted to at least try out for cheer, it would look good on her resume, plus not to mention keep her in shape. Looking over at Christian she asked him a simple question. ”So Christian. What do you like to do for fun other than run in the mornings and bump into strange girls.”
Making a small joke once more, she smiled and waited for him to answer. She truly was interested in what he had to say. She couldn’t quite read him, and it was driving her nuts. The one thing she couldn’t quite figure out is why such a good looking guy didn’t have swarms of girls around him all the time. Not that she was interested in him like that, she just found it odd. Perhaps it was still her high school state of mind, maybe one day she’d grow up, but today wasn’t that day.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Christian nodded when they both started jogging again. It wasn't running but it was jogging, either way worked out just fine for him. He hated going out and then stopping half way through, this was the only way he wasted energy when he first got up because that was his most active time and when he was more than likely to explode over somethin so minimal. Little things that he had figured out over the time. Truthfully Codie must be in pretty good shape because female runners were rare and not something you saw all the time. Just at one look over he could see that. She was awefully cute but not his type exactly although when he thought about Asher he kind of wondered what his type really was. He shook it all off mentally and refocused his attention back to the girl jogging beside him.
He listened as she tried to make light of the recent event and he smiled slightly, just the corner of his lips turning up. Of course she would make a joke out of something that had gone wrong. It was the way normal people handled things he knew that much. He thought about it for a moment. "Umm, well I st-tudy an aweful lot. I l-like to go out on long w-walks. I d-don't know, reading I g-guess."
he said with a sort of non chalent shrug of his shoulder. He never really thought about it any other way. Then as he looked up he saw the trail split off into a fork and he started towards the right one, he knew both of the trails but this one was slightly longer and gave him more time to make friends with this girl. He was actually starting to like her. Most people noticed when he started to relax around someone because his stutter became less and less. When he spoke to his sister it was hardly there anymore. He turned back to Codie. "What about y-you? What d-do you do for fun?" He asked her carefully. He jumped slighlty over a branch in his path. He really was starting to feel the burn of muscles in his legs but he could easily ignore it, he loved that feeling, it was pumped feeling where excersize seemed a lot easier to do. He took his ipod off his arms and zipped it up into his pocket as it was bugging him when he wasnt listening to it, he couldn't have it just sitting there. Having something touching him was hard enough as it was. Yellow diamonds in the light, And we're standing side by side, As your shadow crosses mine... We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place
Codie loved her morning runs, they got her going for the day. She had a lot of energy normally, and when she ran it kicked it into high gear. She was still fairly unfamiliar with the whole college thing and the town, but she was starting to get the hang of things. She just needed to figure out how to get in. When they got to the part in the trail that split, and he started to the right, Codie was a bit worried. She had only ever gone down the left trail, so this was going to be an all new adventure for her. ”Hmm, I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping, dancing, watch movies, work out, oh and cheerleading. But I haven’t done that since high school.”
Looking up at the trail ahead of them, Codie looked ahead as far as she could while still paying attention to Christian. She didn’t want to trip and embarrass herself, so she tried to look for any obstacles that could be in the way. Not noticing anything too big directly ahead, Codie continued to jog along side of Christian. ”Its different running with someone else, but its kind of a nice change. Race ya?” Codie saw her opportunity to sprint and release all the pent up energy. She sprinted off, full speed as they entered the open road.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Christian was super observant so he noticed when a worried look kind of crossed over Codie's face when they took the right trail. No one usually goes around this part but Christian loved it, there was hardly ever a accident here simply because so few people like to come around here. Truthfully it could be a long way if you weren't used to running for long periods of time, but he had been doing it for quite some time. They technically weren't running at the moment anyway they had paced themselves down to a nice smooth jog. There were a few obstacles in the way but nothing that was dangerous enough to fall over on. He didn't comment on the path they had chosen, if Codie wanted to go back then he was more than happy to go with her, she didn't look too uncomfortable as it wore on though.
He listened as she spoke, she was the normal popular type of girl then really. Someone that probably shouldn't be caught hanging out with the likes of him. He shrugged it off though, if she wasn't going to comment on him being a freak or anything like that then he had no problem hanging out with her for abit. Even if it was just for a run every day. He smiled. "D-don't tell but I used to be a ch-cheerleader when I was in high sc-chool"
He said with a slight smile. It was how he had become so buff within a short amount of time. He used to handle the flyers and help them up and down. Someone had to right? Even still it was nice to know that it wasn't frowned upon anymore. He no longer did cheerleading and would probably never miss it but even still, he had made friends in that group at high school. Christian nodded his head with a smile when she said that it was different to run with someone else. Then she added a race on top of that. He figured that he would let her win onsidering she was a girl and it would only be polite. He raced off after her, truthfully she was fast but he knew he could have outrun her within seconds. Instead he kept just behind her and let her win as they got towards the end of the strip. He jumped over a fallen log and almost drew up to her but she won in the end. He smiled as they slowed down again and took in a deep breath. Sure running was hard and they were sweating and breathing quite hard now. He smiled none the less though. "G-good race" He between deep breaths. Yellow diamonds in the light, And we're standing side by side, As your shadow crosses mine... We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place, We found love in a hopeless place
Codie was winded after sprinting down the open trail. She figured that Christian had let her win, there was no way that she could run faster than him, he was in amazing shape, and she just wasn’t that fast. Breathing in slow and steady breathes as to not hyperventilate, Codie placed her hands on her head to keep the circulation going as she walked along the trail until she could start jogging again. It had taken her that long to realize that Christian said that he was a cheerleader in high school She looked at him as she walked, and smiled, she knew that they had to of had something in common besides running, and now she had found it. ”You were a cheerleader? That is so awesome! Did you do it because it was fun, or did you do it to get closer to the girls? We had some of those guys, but it was still great. You have to have male cheerleaders on a team if you want to be good, no one can lift and catch like guys can.” Codie could talk about cheerleading 24/7, but she knew that a lot of people got sick of it real fast. They thought cheerleaders were all stuck up, ditzy girls, which Codie wasn’t totally, but to some extent she was. She definitely had her bitchy days. She then began to wonder about Christians sexuality.
Not that it mattered, what he was, she just didn’t know to many straight male cheerleaders. Sure they weren’t all gay, but majority of them were. She was 99.9% sure that he wasn’t, but he was clean cut, and was a cheerleader, so she just didn’t know. Letting out a few more deep breaths, she tried to strike up some more friendly conversation. She was really starting to like Christian, she thought he would make a great friend and running buddy. ”So what are you majoring in? What are you hoping to do after graduation?”

He didn't mind though, should she become his running buddy for later on or the rest of the year hopefully, well then a bit of companionship would be good. He didn't want to ruin his chances although normally he wouldn't have slowed down to anyone else. He shrugged it off and put it down to the fact that he was a nice guy. He smiled as she started walking again and he did the same. Putting his ahnds behind his head to regain circulation and deep breath. Taking a few he felt himself becoming easier. He hadn't run his hardest and therefore didn't need as long to regenerate himself. He smiled though as he figured she might need a bit longer than he would. He shrugged it off and waited until she was ready.
When they started jogging again his legs were starting to feel the strain and he knew that the end of the trail was looming ever closer. For some reason though, he had enjoyed her company so that was something right? She asked him about his cheerleading his high school. Most people thought he was gay but that just wasn't the case. He tried to smile, just the corner of his lips pulling up as he spoke. "N-no not for the girls. I enjoyed it. Ch-cheerleading was my distraction f-from life. We had s-six guys in our t-team. My sister was the m-main flyer."
He fully smiled at the memory. She had been an inspiration, seriously. She loved flying and hated it when she couldn't and she worked bloody hard to stay in the spotlight all through her cheerleading work. His breathing had gone back to being only slightly laboured, the way he liked it to be when he ran. He could see the clearing where the trail ended but he didn't want it to end. He slowed down to a walk to cool down his muscles slightly. She asked him small questions with polite talk and he looked over at her. "I want t-to be a caridotherasics surgeon. I'm m-majoring in medical science. What about you?" Christian loved how his stutter tended to start disapearing the more comfortable he was with someone. Codie was easy to get along with and made it easier to talk to her. Normally he would be exceedingly shy and only giving away the smalled and brefiest amount of information, but she just didn't seem to mind. Well until he had a meltdown in front of her, then we would see how long it took. Codie walked with her hands above her head until she felt confident enough that her breathing was back to normal mostly. Picking the pace back up, she kept up with Christian, jogging along side him. She listened as he answered her questions. She was almost shocked as to hear his answer. It was just her luck that she would meet someone studying medicine, just like her parent wanted to force her to do. Wouldn’t they have a field day if they only knew.
She didn’t know if this was a good thing or not, but she had a feeling that Christian wasn’t going to be the type to push medicine on her like some people did with undecided students. ”Oh wow, that sounds really tough, but pretty cool too. What made you choose that? Me? Oh I’m still exploring, undecided for now.” She made it as brief as she could while she was talking about her. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Christian, she just wasn’t comfortable telling anyone really. Once she began to tell people the truth about her, things would come real, and she wasn’t sure if she was ready for that yet.
