He had his usual morning routines and liked to stick with them. He got out and wore nothing but a towel as he clicked on his coffee maker. His small apartment was substantial enough. Brushing his teeth he brushed his long hair and looked in the mirror and shrugged. Going into his room he got dressed into a pair of jeans and a black top with some sneakers, just something to be comfortable in for work. Mitch went downstairs and placed his coffee into a flask before walking out the door with keys in hand. Everything else belonged in his pockets. Taking a sip of his black coffee he smiled, the sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon. Walking to his coffee shop he smiled as he unlocked the door and kept it unlocked but ensure the closed sign was still up.
Mitch had always been a workaholic, always arriving early to ensure everything was set up. He was restocking all the milk in the fridge and ensure all the cases were full with coffee beans. It was only 5:30am but they opened at 7am and he wanted to ensure that everything was right. Walking around he put down all the chairs inside and out killing at least half an hour. He always made sure they were exactly where they needed to be to ensure they looked right. Although the floors had been cleaned the night before he grabbed out a broom and started sweeping all the inside floors. Looking at the clock that was on the wall it was 6:15am. How time flew. Going around and spraying all the tables and ensuring everything was clean he headed back behind the counter and put away all the cleaning gear he had just used. Letting out a deep breath he smiled. Putting cash in each register in case people needed change right away.
No doubt someone would be coming into work soon. Normally it was Cherry and she worked most morning shifts, well actually she worked most shifts. She wasn't even full time but was here more often than the full timers. He shrugged it off and considered giving her a raise, she deserved one that was for sure. Looking around Mitch smiled with a breath of fresh air. All the book were in order he had made sure of that last night. He started re-counting money. Something that would take his mind off of things. He liked to do that. He heard a bell go letting him know that someone had entered the shop. Looking up and saw he saw Cherry all ready to start her shift. He appreciated her being late and put away the money he had been counting. Letting a smile cross his features he pushed his hair out of the way.

Cherry ran a brush through her long blonde hair before weaving her signature thin braid into the side of her hair. It was a work day so she grabbed a hair tie and pulled her hair back into a high ponytail, the overgrown strands of hair from what used to be bangs falling around her face. No need to get it fixed, she looked more mature without the bangs anyways.
Cherry's closet was pretty much mundane, t-shirts, tank tops, and jeans, among some cute blouses and a skirt or two. Everything matched blue jeans so Cherry just had to grab a random shirt to throw on, cramming a girlier looking blouse into her bag in the process, just in case she decided to go out afterwards. Today's shirt turned out to be a forest green tank top.
Then it was off to work for Cherry, the coffee shop was somewhere she loved. As soon as she opened the door, the happy chime of the bell rang and she was hit with the strong aroma of brewing coffee. She saw Mitch at the counter with the moneybox. She stopped for a second, "Everything's done, like woah." She said with a laugh.
Her eyes glanced over to Mitch, "Now please tell me you left me with something to do, can't have me bored can you?" she said with a teasing laugh. The floors were clean, the chairs were all where they should be, all that was left was the open sign, but Cherry knew she was too short to try to reach the switch.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] The Words: Enough The Outfit: Here The Notes For Miss Cherry Mitch watched as Cherry took in all that he had done. Surely she knew him well enough by now to know that he would always get these kind of things done before anyone got here. Oh well he couldn't help being a workaholic. He watched her carefully as she took in the room probably looking for something that she could do for the next fifteen minutes before they opened. Well she would probably need to go and punch in before anything else and then maybe get her apron on as well, that could take up at least five should she do it right. Of course knowing Cherry though she would want to do something concrete. He had a small idea and wondered if he should let her do it whilst he went out back into his office to check out the books and ensure they were ready for the busy day ahead. He smiled when she made a comment. "Of course everything is done. This is me your talking to here I did it all"
|
He said with a smile. He was about to move onto the other register but thought against it. Cherry could count that one once she signed in and got herself sorted. He chuckled slightly at her comment and shook his head. When wasn't there something that could be done. Technically the tables could use an extra spraying over and he still hadn't restocked the coffee lids or the serviettes. He smiled. "There is always something to do Cherry. Go sign in and whilst your outback could you bring in some of the serviettes and the lids to the cups please?" He asked her with a smile. He counted the next register as he went and knew he would be able to keep going. "Of course if you really want though you can attempt for the next fifteen minutes to turn on the open sign" He said it with a smile and a playful tone knowing he would be the one to flick the switch. Mitch had always been a very playful and easy going kind of person. He was also a great listener and knew what to do when it came to a person who needed a breather and someone to talk to. Buy them a coffee or get them to buy a coffee and then lend them an ear. Nothing hurt to listen to people's problems. Business in this small coffee shop had always been good and now he knew more than he let on. He knew everything about everyone. He couldn't help it. Of course there were always people who thought of him as really dodgy and never associated with him just because he had a slightly scruffy look. He couldn't help it if his long hair was preferred long and he only shaved when the hair on his chin grew too bad to ignore. He shrugged it off though and never let it get to him. He finished the register and waited for Cherry to arrive back out front. He pushed the money back in and made sure everything was turned on ready to go. "Sure thing!" Cherry said with her sweet smile before flitting to the back of the coffee shop to punch in. Sunshine with a cherry on top as people used to call her when she was a kid. It wasn't that she was always super sunny and happy, but she knew how to keep up the look, especially with a customer service type of job. Right as she reached the door she poked her head out with a light laugh "Was that some kind of short joke?"
The back was highly organized with a place for everything and everything in it's place. The serviettes and lids were sitting right on the top shelf. Cherry quickly punched in her work id and then set off to try to reach them. They were a bit high and after a minute or so of stretching, and a little jump or two to reach them, she gave in and grabbed the folding stepstool from by the door. With that, she was finally able to reach them. The girl even grabbed a spare box of straws just in case too.
With a face of triumph she walked back out into the main shop and set them on the table, just in time to hear the little bell on the door ring and to see the first customer of the day arrive.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] The Words: Enough The Outfit: Here The Notes For Miss Cherry Mitch knew that he always had a tenancy of over working himself. He couldn't help it, that was just the way he was recently. Everything was hectic and he just didn't think slacking off was an option. But it was good to know that he wasn't the only one who thought about things this way. Most of his staff team were workaholics as well but none more than Cherry who tended to pick up shifts left right and center and always asked for more and not to mention somewhere in there finding time for her college work. It was manic, he worked hard and tried to keep everything running smoothly here but it was expected of him as he was the owner. Cherry however was nothing more than a dedicated member of staff and he was so happy that she was here. She was probably one of his closest friends as well in this small town.
He watched as Cherry flitted off back towards the back of the coffee shop. He was a bit of a perfectionist and liked everything to be in one place at a time, it was just the way he was. It tended to make everything easier out back although by the end of the night he had no doubt that it would be looking like a complete dump once again and he would be the one to end up cleaning it up again. It was the usual. He went to the front of the store and pushed the mat by the side of the door. Going outside he put all the chairs down out there as well and all the umbrella's up. People liked to sit and watch the world go buy some morning. Then reaching up he flicked the switch and the neon sign saying that they were open came flickering on. He liked the neon, it gave the place a sort of modern day feel. He knew he wouldn't have to wait long before someone came in so he moved back behind the counter and watched as Cherry came back through with all of the things that they would need. She stocked them up and he smiled towards her.
The bell rang at the door when the first customer came in. Usually he would serve them and then no doubt Cherry would get to work right away with making their coffee. Business was good here in this small town, it turned out that most people didn't want to wait in some ridiculous line and pay over priced amounts for coffee. He was reasonably cheap and therefore probably got in as much customers as Starbucks was. The first thing was ordered. "Cherry can you please start on a medium mocha please"
|
He asked kindly and took the guys money and put it in the cash draw and gave the change. "It will only take a moment" He smiled and walked over to her. "Don't forget to try and reach everything from the top, just so you can't reach" He nudged her shoulder slightly and laughed a little with her. The customer wasn't a regular so it would be good to see the friendly environment that this place entailed. [/div]

"You know Mitch, there are these wonderful inventions I once came across..." Cherry said as she marked the coffee cup, "Those things make us short people able to reach things..." Coffee was being poured into the cup "They're called stepstools. I hear they're quite handy." And a slender finger pressed the button on the foam machine. With a flick of her risk, Cherry had the mocha syrup in a pretty star shape. A little thing that Cherry liked doing, drawing pretty designs with the syrup.
If it wasn't for her business minded demeanor, Cherry would want to be an artist. Then again, she felt that making food might as well be an art. Maybe that's why her minor was culinary artistry. That was also why she liked decorating the little pastries and coffee cakes, always garnishing them with mint springs and pieces of fruit that she carefully cut.
The blonde snapped the lid onto the coffee and put it on the pickup counter with a bright and sunny smile. "Thank you, come again and see us soon!" she said cheerfully. She looked at the clock, it wouldn't be too long until things got busy and the shop filled with students rushing to their early morning classes and people dropped by on their way to work.
Mitch probably would ask for another tray of cinnamon rolls sometime that morning. Cherry dipped to the back and started preheating the oven before pulling out the unbaked cinnamon rolls she made the night before from the freezer. By the time the oven heated, they'd be thawed enough and she'd have the icing made.
One thing Cherry never quite understood was why shelves were built so high, she could barely reach the powered sugar to make the icing from. A quick few minutes with the icing mixer and the oven beeped. The blonde whisked the cinnamon rolls into the oven and then started dipping and decorating the cake pops that were in the freezer. Cold ones held the icing better from her experience.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] The Words: Enough The Outfit: Here The Notes For Miss Cherry Mitch knew that his teasing with Cherry could always been thought of going the other way. It didn't matter though, Cherry and himself knew that they were nothing more than friends and they had been that way for the longest of times. If anything he felt closer to her than most of his family, probably because she was just like him in a lot of ways. They both were workaholics and complete perfectionists. They both preferred to keep things a certain way and everything had to be done to perfection. He was normally used to her teasing and the way she joked about with him but this time he watched her actually get one in on him that he didn't really have a retort for. One point for the day. The battle would go on though. He chuckled at her and shook his head slightly. The day was about to really start with the regulars. He watched as she put a pretty pattern on top with the syrup and he rolled his eyes but didn't make a comment on it, leave her be.
"Yeah well I don't think they quite make them your size. I mean there's small and then there's you"
|
. He said it with a smile as she handed the mocha over. The bell rang as another employee came in ten minutes late. Mitch was a pretty laid back person sure but he wasn't one to let tardiness go without being chatisized. "Lisa, don't be late again you hear me? Do it again and you'l get a written warning." He gave her a stern look and noticed that Cherry had gone out back already anticipating what he was about to ask her. One of the reasons that he loved having her in his shop, she just got on with her work and wasn't exactly one to sit and wait for an order. Lisa came back through to the front of the shop and someone else came into the store. He glanced at her. "Go and sway with Cherry please. She always gets stuck in the kitchen" He said which everyone knew to be true. All the people enployed here were actually really nice people. He served the customer and it was for three drinks. Two black coffee's and a cappocinio. He smiled and nodded and set the coffee machines going. The bell went once more and people started to enter. This was why he wanted Cherry, she was fast and knew what to do. The black coffee's were easy he set out some sugar as well placed the lid on then moved off for the other one. Putting the milk into the coffee he added the foam on top and then sprinkled the chocolate topping. Placing a lid on he marked it with the paper and smiled. He handed them over and swapped for the money and started once again. [/div]

Yeah Cherry knew she was short, height was the usual order in the day of the constant snark war. Then again, for her it was always the fact that Mitch was scruffy. Lisa came into the kitchen offering to switch to the baking side of the business. Lisa probably liked baking more than the repetitive coffee making. "Sure, just give me a sec." Cherry said as she put the final touches on the set of cake pops she was decorating. She always went all out when it came to decorating things. It was Cherry's firm belief that the prettier things are, the faster they sell. And when Cherry was decorating, boy did those cake pops sell.
The blonde rounded the corner out of the kitchen balancing a tray of cinnamon buns, sliced coffee cake in various flavors, and the cake pop display. It was a little balancing trick for her to somehow slide everything into the display case without dropping anything, but she had done it so many times it was natural. As far as she was concerned, it was much more efficient than two trips to carry everything.
With that done, she jumped in line behind Mitch, picked up the next marked coffee cup and started making drinks. "Shortbread and banana nut are in the oven and the cinnamon bums are nice and hot right now." She said in a pretty sing-song voice to Mitch after putting the drink on the claim table. "Medium mocha latte for Patrick!" She called. On to making lattes, the foam machine was always fun, she could get even soy to foam well. That was a skill that had taken months upon months to perfect.
And this would be how most of the day went, making coffee, drawing pretty designs with the syrup (which she never failed to do), chatting up the customers, teasing Mitch, and making people smile. Unless of course something extra interesting happened.
